West Virginia’s Blueprint will be released on March 19, 2009 at the Charleston Marriott at 1:00 pm.

WV's Blueprint Phase II

TechConnectWV is working with Battelle Technology Partnership Practice to develop immediate and long-term strategies and actions to capitalize on WV’s technology strengths, close critical gaps, and grow WV’s innovation economy. Draft versions are being reviewed and vetted by WV’s experts and stakeholders, including the West Virginia Development Office, Vision Shared, an Advanced Energy Working Group and a Biometrics Working Group. The final strategic plan will be used to guide and direct actions to enhance TBED, create opportunities, and boost the number of high-paying jobs across West Virginia.

WV's Blueprint Phase I

TechConnectWV contracted with Battelle Technology Partnership Practice in 2006 to produce Phase I of WV’s TBED Strategic Plan. Battelle identified four strength areas (technology platforms) and four gaps. A fifth gap was identified from statewide focus groups while working on Phase II of the Blueprint.

Identified Strengths (technology):

  • Advanced energy and energy-related technology
  • Advanced materials and chemicals
  • Identification, security and sensing technology
  • Molecular diagnostics, therapeutics and targeted delivery systems

Identified Gaps in WV's TBED Infrastructure

  • Talent
  • Early-Stage Seed Capital
  • Entrepreneurial Know-How
