Boyd – The Future State of DoD BiometricsFAIRMONT, W.Va. — September 28, 2011 – The West Virginia High Technology Consortium (WVHTC) Foundation is proud to welcome Mr. John Boyd, Director, Defense Biometrics & Forensics who will speak in Fairmont on Wednesday, October 12.The event is sponsored by the WVHTC Foundation Affiliate Leadership Council (ALC). “We are looking forward to hearing Mr. Boyd discuss the future state of DoD Biometrics,” said Craig Hartzell, President & CEO of Azimuth, Inc. “Ensuring rapid response to critical warfighter requirements, including biometric and forensic capabilities, is an extremely important role; and, John Boyd, in his current capacity, is directly responsible for influencing that response across the range of defense mission areas. West Virginia businesses are very fortunate to have this unique opportunity to interact with Mr. Boyd and to show him the best of what our thriving biometrics technology corridor has to offer in response to the urgent operational needs of our troops.” Prior to assuming his position in March 2011, Mr. Boyd served on active duty as the Director, Naval Identity Management on the Secretary of the Navy’s staff. In this position, he interacted and coordinated with Department of Defense commands and organizations and other government departments on advancing technologies, policies, and human factors to improve applications of digital identities. He led projects in digital media collection in maritime environments, cryptobinding, and articulation of future naval biometric and forensic-enabled capabilities. Captain Boyd drove development for a handheld biometric and digital media device supporting Navy, Marine Corps, and Naval Criminal Investigative Service operational needs. In another military assignment as a Captain in the United States Navy Reserve Component, he commanded the Navy Headquarters Manpower, Personnel, Training, and Education Reserve unit. The WVHTC Foundation Affiliate Leadership Council Technology Exchange Luncheon will take place on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at the 5000 NASA Boulevard Building in the I-79 Technology Park in Fairmont. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. The luncheon and presentation will follow from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. The cost is $17 for WVHTC Foundation Affiliate members and $22 for Non-Affiliates.
